I feel like I’ve been running around nonstop lately. I’m constantly shuffling back and forth between Brooklyn and Manhattan for work. This past weekend I took a spontaneous trip with some friends to Vermont. We went up on Saturday and back on Sunday. It meant spending hours crammed in the backseat of a pickup truck cab, but I was as content as could be except for the occasional body part falling asleep. I felt like I was in a fit of giggles the entire time. Whenever I’m stagnant I feel the instinct to wander. Whenever I’m away from home I crave the peaceful hours spent doing relaxing. I try to find a balance of both, but it seems to be one or the other these days. Things have definitely settled down since I’ve gotten settled in my apartment. Here are some details of the decorations in my room. It’s become a place where I can truly relax and find solace.

More inspirational photos for decorating my new apartment. Chloe and I got access to our apartment on Thursday night. There is no furniture so we bought patio chairs from Kmart that we set up in the living room. When we got there we realized we didn't have electricity, so we went to the bodega and bought a bunch of candles. We sat in our dark living room on our plastic chairs drinking the celebratory bottle of champagne we bought and eating pizza by candlelight (how romantic!) We realized it was exactly how we pictured our first night in the apartment and it couldn't have been more fitting. It was so nice spending some time in the empty space to realize all the potential it had. I'm anxious to move it, but finals is stopping me from thinking that far ahead. I can't wait to start decorating so I can settle in! Even without furniture or lights it feels like I place I can call home.

I signed my lease yesterday and I couldn't be more excited. I'm moving to Brooklyn! I can't wait to explore an entirely new area. Brooklyn seems like a really cool place to live. There is a community garden directly across the street! I'm so excited to have a place of my own to decorate with lots of plants, sunlight, candles and fairylights. The most exciting part is that we have a private patio, which means lots of barbecuing and suntanning. Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do in Park Slope?

Spring is in the air

It's been getting warmer for a while, but I finally feel like Spring is just around the corner. I can't wait to wear short shorts, drink iced coffee and start exploring the city. It also means I will be looking for apartments soon! There's nothing I love more than warm afternoons where I can wander around and see what the city has to offer. Last Spring Francesca and I would often take day trips to Brooklyn to go to the Flea market, thrift stores and get away for a little. The cold weather makes me lazy. I often choose watching a movie in my bed to exploring new places. The warm weather will also mean shedding my dark, winter layers in exchange for bright colors and floral dresses! What are you excited about for Spring?

Berlin//Part 2

On day two we slept late since we got in so late. Jessica, David and I went into the center to look for pants for David and then planned to meet up with Amy and Sandra. We stopped in to get curry wurst and who do we see but the very people we were supposed to meet elsewhere! Curry wurst is sooo good and absolutely everywhere in Berlin. It's not just a food, it's a life style.  I'm exclusively using curry ketchup now, no exceptions. We were all still tired and knew we couldn't get too many sights in, so we took a bus tour. It was a really good idea. Since I have been to Berlin before it was more like a refresher course. When we got to the train station I stopped in to see about a train ticket for the next day, turns out they were all sold out! That was kind of a mess, but it all worked out in the end. 

After we went back to the apartment and spent time getting warm under the covers, listening to music and being silly. We met up with friends from NYU at Berliner Marcus Brau for some beer and an old-fashioned German meal. I got wiener schnitzel with eggs on it. Last time I was in Berlin I was a vegetarian, so this trip was my opportunity to make up for meat dishes I didn't try. The meals in Germany do not disappoint. When it's bitter cold out, there's nothing like a big plate of meat and potatoes to warm your body. We went to bed early since we all had to wake up early.

On another note hurricane Sandy is currently hitting the areas where many of my loved ones live. I hope everyone stays safe and is ok! I'm sure everyone has stocked up on supplies and looking forward to staying in for the next two days. Be safe!
