Weekend Happenings

I was in Upstate New York this past weekend, so these are actually from the Sunday before. Chloe and I decided to continue our tradition of Sunday Sandwiches with a trip to City Sub in Park Slope. We took our bikes there since it seems like we'll only have a short time before it gets too cold to ride. I got a spicy sandwich with chipotle chicken and pepper jack. The sandwiches were all super simple, but oh so good!

In other news, WE GOT A BUN! (Well, technically Chloe got a bun). His name is Olive and we adopted him two weekends ago from a pet shelter in Harlem. One thing I'm really adamant about is pet adoption. With so many unwanted pets already in the world, I don't see how people can spend so much money to get animals from breeders or places like Petco. The volunteer at the shelter spent so much time teaching us about bun care, something I'm sure wouldn't happen at a super chain. When we were picking out a bun, it seemed impossible to take home any amount under ten. If I had my way I would be living in a sea of buns, but obviously we only got one. Olive is a perfect fit to our apartment. He's super curious and the interactions between him and lil cat are completely hilarious.

You might be asking yourself what I'm sitting with in Prospect Park. This dreaded blob's name is Marley (too cute!) She was wearing a rasta collar and it was her birthday! Her owners were playing soccer and she kept running up to our blanket and rolling around, exposing her belly to be scratched. Her owners would call her name and she would start to run to them, only to fake them out and come back to us. At times it was hard to tell which end was which! Surprisingly she didn't smell at all!

Resolutions

These pictures were taken late-night on the subway home after a party. They make me laugh every time I look at them, it could have something to do with the poster in the background or the fact that no one can hold a straight face. Either way, I feel like these pics are giving up some serious 70s vibes.

When school started I decided I was going to make some goals - new year, new resolutions. Not like the New Years' resolutions that only last a month, but practical ones. I still haven't given up on my New Years' resolution from last year because it was realistic, I didn't set the bar so high that I will instantly fail and feel bad about it. I'm also hoping that writing them down will solidify them in my mind.

My goals are:
1. To eat healthier. I know that sounds like a big one, but it's more of a mindset than anything. I want to make sure that at least one meal a day is something I can be proud of. I'd mostly like to become more aware of what I'm putting in my body. I'm taking a nutrition class this semester and I'm hoping that the foods I eat will start to be more well-balanced.

2. Get back in to yoga! Last semester I was doing yoga just about everyday, then summer came and well...there it went. My goal is not a number of times a week (it's doomed to fail), but just reiterating my last New Years' resolution to get more flexible. This goal means that I'm not going to feel bad about myself if I don't hit a certain number, or guilty because I've had a long day and just want to go home. It's about being in tune with my body and realizing the every time I make it to a class, I'm doing something special for myself.

3. And lastly - to get out and do things in New York! New Year means new New York - new restaurants, exhibitions and there are always special places waiting to be discovered. Hopefully this goal will mean that I manage my time well so that I'm able to take an afternoon off to stroll through a museum or lay in a park. New York has so much to offer and see. This is my last year here and I don't want to regret not going places because I was holed up studying.

Ballgame

On the last day of summer, Labor day, we headed out to the afternoon yankees game. There was a rain delay, but after waiting two hours the sun finally came out and it turned into perfect baseball weather. It was a nice way to spend the day before school started - drinking beer and eating hotdogs. It also didn't hurt that yankees kicked ass! I love the atmosphere of baseball games - the entire crowd doing the wave, vendors tossing cracker jacks high into the stands and of course people on the jumbotron having dilemmas about whether to look into the camera or at themselves on the screen. We got nosebleed seats for only a couple bucks, which worked out well since we got cover from the rain. It meant we could spend our money on more important things - like novelty cups filled with beer (that are now stacked in the cupboard).
When did it get so COLD! I love fall weather and all the things that come along with it - sweaters, jean jackets, long pants...but these pictures were only taken a few days ago and already the seasons seemed to have changed instantly! Right now it seems impossible that I could go out in short shorts and a crop top and not freeze my bum off. I guess this really was the last day of summer. Though I was sad to see summer go, it was one nice last hurrah!

Pink lady

Tom's kitty sunnies

Dun dun dun DUHHHH....I know you've all been holding your breath, but it's time to breathe easy again because I've finally picked a domain name! You can now find me at www.thefoxtrails.com! The only thing is, my lack of internet knowledge shut down my site for a couple days. I finally had to enlist the help of my brother who told me I "flew to close to the sun" before reluctantly agreeing to help. So you have Richard to thank for being able to read my ramblings again! ANWAY...I've been trying to develop a hobby lately. So far, I haven't found my new calling, but in the meantime I've been spending my time entering giveaways. I usually never win anything, but it's finally paid off! I got these rad sunnies from a Tom's giveaway (along with a hundred dollar giftcard I have yet to spend)! The sunglasses are called 'the Kitty,' so it's only appropriate I have my favorite accessory with me.

I've been experimenting with hair dye recently. For the past month I've been adamant about dying it purple, but no matter what I do it doesn't seem to last more than a week or two. After the third attempt I finally gave up purple and moved on to pink. It's a pretty subtle color that often looks more orange than it does pink, but I'm diggin it anyway. I always wanted to a be one of the pink ladies from Grease. I guess I'd be Frenchy because of my pink hair...I never did have the sassiness to live up to Rizzo.
