I Who Have Arrived In Heaven

On tuesday Chloe and I went to the David Zwirner Gallery in Chelsea to see Yayoi Kusama's I Who Have Arrived In Heaven. We only went to one of the two infinity rooms because the line for the other one was over five hours. I loved the one we went to, it looked like something Dr. Seuss would create. I really enjoyed the one we went to. Kusama's art is bold, colorful, and whimsical. After we hung around in the East Village, an area that I've neglected since moving to Brooklyn. We bought some matching phone cases and found some cozy spots to hang out in.

I'm back home after finishing my finals. Unfortunately, I have some type of cold/flu/sick thing that means I'll be spending the next couple days hiding under the covers of my bed.

Pool Shark

These pictures are from earlier this week, I've been meaning to get them up, but alas...laziness. This day was spent in and around Central Park. After a birthday lunch with my dad in midtown, I walked up fifth avenue and found myself lost in the Central Park Zoo. I spent time watching seals swim effortlessly through the water, always popping their heads above the surface in the same spot. Even when it started to rain, Central Park was more beautiful than ever.

At this point of fall, I pretty much always have a flannel tied around my waist. Not only does it play into my current fashion style, titled 'disney grunge,' but it's also great for the massive temperature changes throughout the day. I'm obsessed with this shirt, given to me by a friend. I wore it to work alot this summer because it's perfect for an office or class (with a sweater) or for going out to drinks. Francescaand I met up near Central Park after class and found ourselves at a happy hour on the Upper East Side, an area where I've never spent that much time. After a few drinks, Francesca and I started playing pool, something she claims she's never done, but she was suspiciously good for a beginner....a pool shark in disguise. 

We later joined a couple guys while they played pool, not contributing much skill-wise and refusing to tell the truth. They asked us what we were doing there, we said we were hired to exterminate the poltergeist that was haunting the bar, but were killing time until the witching hour. They asked us what we liked to eat, we said raw meat. Maybe it's because halloween is around the corner, but we were in a witchy mood with no interest in playing into their flirty game.

Real-life Mermaid

I realized that this is the first time I'm posting my blue/green hair on my blog! It's been this way for a couple weeks already and I'm in love! When I was dying it blue, I ran out of dye so put some leftover purple on the ends. It turned into this cool ombre with every color of the sea. I've gotten several comments about looking like a mermaid so needless to say, my dreams have come true. My favorite interaction was a girl outside a bar, grabbing it and yelling "real-life mermaid!"

These pictures were taken the other night after hanging out a friend's apartment in the financial district. Natalie and I are laughing in all of them because Chloe insisted on paparazzing us by taking pictures of us while she was walking by nonchalantly or else hiding behind pillars to get a pic. Truth be told, she would make a terrible paparazzi...she's too tall and lanky to ever be able to get a sneaky shot. That's ok, I'm sure she has other life aspirations.

Now that it's fall, I've been trying to layer in ways where I won't be freezing or drenched in sweat. This is still the awkward transition time where it's chilly early and late, but during the daytime hours I'm usually running around and trying not to sweat on everything/one. Kimonos have been my go-to for preventing the perspiration that will eventually render me friendless. I got this one for five bucks at H&M, such a good find!

Platypus

These pictures were taken last week when it was hot, hot, hot! Ella and I headed to Manhattan to walk along the Highline. It seems Ella and I were not original in our thinking, because it was packed with people! The highline is one of the most beautiful corners the city has to offer. These pictures turned out great, especially the ones of Ella - what a babe! The only way to beat the heat was to wear a short dress and stay hydrated with refreshing lemonade. We had to keep walking to experience a slight breeze, because whenever we paused, even for a minute, we were overcome with heat. The weather in NYC has been so muggy lately that it's hard for me to do many activities that involve leaving the breeze of my non-oscillating fan. I'm so in love with this dress that I got from Natalie when she was cleaning her closet. It has exposed shoulders and is the perfect length for days like this. (Truth be told, I wear it backwards because it fits me better that way). 

I'm headed off to Philly this weekend to celebrate the birthday of Katherine. It means I'll also get to see my brother, an extra treat. This weekend promises to be filled with overeating and spontaneous adventures.

Disposable

I finally got my disposable camera developed. These pictures are from Andy's 21st birthday at Barcade, a visit I took to Bard to visit Ella and most recently my housewarming! Between finals and moving, I feel like I've had no time. Things are finally starting to get settled and everything is coming together. I don't start my internship until next week so until then I've been having visitors nonstop! I'm so excited to show off my new place and also to see my friends home for the summer. I love disposable cameras, I wish they didn't add up so quickly. I used to use them alot in high school and recently rediscovered how great they are. The pictures never need to be edited and I like that they're so candid. I've been guilty of looking at a camera and saying "oh no I don't like this one, will you take another one?" With a disposable you get what you take. The only problem is a couple of the photos didn't come out, but the ones that did are great!

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! We all have women in our life who we love and respect and it's nice to take the time to honor them and all that they've done for us. My mother came into the city so that we could celebrate together. My brother decided to join us at the last minute and it was such a nice surprise! We went to the Spotted Pig, a restaurant that I've wanted to go to for a long time. I had ramps with a fried duck egg, a salad with pig's ears and skin and creme caramel for dessert. It was incredible, but very salty (and I have a high salt tolerance). The whole place was covered with cute pig memorabilia. My mother said that it reminded her a British pub. While my brother and I were waiting for our mother we sat in a small park and then sat out by the water. I was so happy that we could all get together. It was a nice break from the hectic mess that finals always is.  I love you mom!
