Brooklyn Disposable

Dipping into the archives again for a post I never got around to publishing! I've mentioned before about how much I love disposable cameras. I just love how candid they are. I often look through them after getting them developed and think what was I doing?! But more often than not, I remember how fun it all was. Plus they always come out looking cool.

These photos are back from when I lived in Brooklyn. They span a couple months, which explains why my hair is doing all sorts of things. The platinum blonde was from when I had to bleach green dye out of my hair so I could restore it to it's natural color before my cousin's wedding...nobody wants to be the bridesmaid that looks moldy.

They also include Halloween featuring my favorite costume of all time - zombie Wayne and Garth. My boyfriend never fails to surprise me, so when he casually mentioned that "yeah, he was pretty good at Halloween makeup," we knew we had to cash in. Also featured in that Halloween was a runner up for favorite costumes - a bunch of bananas. There were about a dozen of us dressed as bananas and one as a gorilla who spent the night chasing us around. Here my boyfriend is shown being a cannibalistic banana eating his brethren.

These photos make me nostalgic for Brooklyn. Though at the time I living there, I sometimes felt cramped, those late nights spent at neighborhood bars or exploring the neighborhood was always the best. Friends would come visit just to go to the neighborhood beer garden, where we'd sit at the long tables and play games, inevitably consuming beer by the liter-full and taking these silly photos.

Sunday Sandwiches: Berry Park

I betcha missed, if you even remember, Sunday Sandwiches! This Sunday: Berry Park in Williamsburg. Yesterday was my good friend Jess' 21st birthday and there was no better way to celebrate than some cocktails at a rooftop brunch spot! Senior Formal was on Saturday night, which meant I didn't get to bed until late. I had planned on spending the day hermited inside, watching some OC with my lady friend, but it was such a beautiful day that we figured we needed to get out! Berry Park is cute as can be and all of their food is incredible. We shared a big bowl o' fries with ketchup and mayo, then the majority of us got eggy, cheesy croissants. I don't quite understand how croissants are so buttery delicious and light at the same time, but I'm not complaining. They keep my belly full and happy. A day spent with great friends, good food, and lots of foosball is always a successful one in my mind!

Booze Cruise

Well it's officially senior week! This means the count down to graduation begins with a week of activities. Last night - a boat cruise on the Hudson River. In between tearing it up on the dance floor, we headed onto the deck to check out the views of the city. I've been so focused on leaving New York after graduation, that I sometimes forget to look around and take it all in. I really do live in a magical city, which I take for granted all too often. I'm afraid that I won't be able to truly appreciate it until I'm gone, gone, gone. What a better way to rekindle my urban romance then with some activities that make me stop and reflect on how beautiful this city is?

SPBK 14

Even though it's Spring Break (my last one mind you), I was not able to jet off to some exotic locale. I'm kicking myself for taking an actual work load! (I didn't get the memo that second semester seniors have enough on their plates and should probably just take a few classes...and not have an internship). The upside was that for my upcoming paper I got assigned Alfred Barnes, which gave me an excuse to spend a couple days in Philly. I got to see Katherine and my brother, in addition to eating my weight in delicious food! I picked up some moccasins for only four bucks. I've always wanted a pair, but for some reason it just never happened. I get why people wear them all the time, they're basically just socially acceptable slippers.

For my birthday Katherine got me a pair of Free People velvet overalls, paid for my ticket to the Barnes Foundation, and picked up a used copy Liar's Club by Mary Karr. What can I say, the girl gets me. On Wednesday morning we stopped by Federal Donuts, hands down my favorite place to go in Philly. I mean, where else can you get fresh gourmet donuts and some chicken? Our next stop was the Barnes Foundation, which was unlike anything I have ever really seen. My eyes couldn't stay focused on one spot for long. After about three hours I had everything I needed for my paper and we were simply over-saturated with art. The perfect cure - tacos with a side of mac and cheese...yes please!

On Thursday morning before my bus back we met up with my brother at Sabrina's Cafe located in a converted old house in West Philly. I ate a mountain of stuffed french toast with bananas, the perfect meal before heading back to Brooklyn.

Anyway, I'll be spending the weekend libing la vida loca and cursing everyone who will be in class on Monday morning with a tan. More pictures of my new overalls to come!

Step, step, step, step

Paris has been an trip consisting entirely of walking. Ella and I come home at night and almost immediately pass out, not before taking our shoes off our aching feet. Our third day and Paris all we did was walk! From monument to monument was around ten miles, not counting the actual walking we did around each site. Our first day in Paris we had some trouble on the train and since then we've been avoiding public transportation even when it would make our lives much easier. We've also been walking because it's been a great way to see the city. Each arrondissement is like entering a different world, a new neighborhood to explore.

Our third day in Paris was Bastille day, France's Independence Day. We walked leisurely over to the gardens of the Louvre where we sat for a while by a pond and watched a duck and her ducklings swim effortlessly through the water. Our stomachs lead us to the park's edge where we had an overpriced snack of cafe au lait (ole!) and split a chocolate and banana crepe. We then made our way up to the Cathedral of Scared Heart without using a map, just using the church on the hill as a guiding beacon. Sacred Heart lies at the top of a large hill, meaning the views of the city are spectacular. Its all white facade makes it look so pure and pristine standing alone on the top of Montmartre.

After spending time in the shade of a tree looking at the view and some failed attempts at selfies, we descended the hill with our sights set on the Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triumph. We hadn't been that interested in climbing monuments, but we decided getting to the top of the Arc was a must. It would have been an incredible place to watch the Bastille day fireworks, but it closed early for the holiday. After we started walking to the Eiffel Tower to find a spot to watch the fireworks. Seeing the fireworks next to the Eiffel Tower was picture-perfect. It's what I've always imagined when I pictured Paris. Everything about Paris is romantic, from the people to the city itself. It truly is a magical city, just waiting to be explored!
