Weekend Adventures

This past weekend Jeff stayed with me. It was a great excuse to get out and do some of the things I've been wanting to do around Brooklyn. The weather wasn't great, but we made the best of it. We walked through prospect park in the rain, went thrifting at beacon's closet, went to the Brooklyn brewery, a mets game (I'm a yankees fan, but they were away this weekend), got lunch at S'Nice and went to the farmers market. In between we caught up over meals and watched movies snuggled up with lil cat. At beacon's closet I got a backpack, shirt and galaxy night light! I love walking around my new neighborhood, there is always something going on. Yesterday there was live music at the BBQ restaurant below my apartment, so music filled the apartment through the open windows.

Disposable

I finally got my disposable camera developed. These pictures are from Andy's 21st birthday at Barcade, a visit I took to Bard to visit Ella and most recently my housewarming! Between finals and moving, I feel like I've had no time. Things are finally starting to get settled and everything is coming together. I don't start my internship until next week so until then I've been having visitors nonstop! I'm so excited to show off my new place and also to see my friends home for the summer. I love disposable cameras, I wish they didn't add up so quickly. I used to use them alot in high school and recently rediscovered how great they are. The pictures never need to be edited and I like that they're so candid. I've been guilty of looking at a camera and saying "oh no I don't like this one, will you take another one?" With a disposable you get what you take. The only problem is a couple of the photos didn't come out, but the ones that did are great!

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! We all have women in our life who we love and respect and it's nice to take the time to honor them and all that they've done for us. My mother came into the city so that we could celebrate together. My brother decided to join us at the last minute and it was such a nice surprise! We went to the Spotted Pig, a restaurant that I've wanted to go to for a long time. I had ramps with a fried duck egg, a salad with pig's ears and skin and creme caramel for dessert. It was incredible, but very salty (and I have a high salt tolerance). The whole place was covered with cute pig memorabilia. My mother said that it reminded her a British pub. While my brother and I were waiting for our mother we sat in a small park and then sat out by the water. I was so happy that we could all get together. It was a nice break from the hectic mess that finals always is.  I love you mom!

Bedroom Inspiration

Pictures from Moon to Moon

More inspirational photos for decorating my new apartment. Chloe and I got access to our apartment on Thursday night. There is no furniture so we bought patio chairs from Kmart that we set up in the living room. When we got there we realized we didn't have electricity, so we went to the bodega and bought a bunch of candles. We sat in our dark living room on our plastic chairs drinking the celebratory bottle of champagne we bought and eating pizza by candlelight (how romantic!) We realized it was exactly how we pictured our first night in the apartment and it couldn't have been more fitting. It was so nice spending some time in the empty space to realize all the potential it had. I'm anxious to move it, but finals is stopping me from thinking that far ahead. I can't wait to start decorating so I can settle in! Even without furniture or lights it feels like I place I can call home.

Hidden Gems

My favorite part about the city is the hidden gems that catch you by surprise. For one of my classes I had to visit a medieval cathedral and I chose this one up near Columbia University. It's a massive cathedral that doesn't reveal itself until you turn the corner. This beautiful church is akin to the beautiful medieval churches I've been studying pictures of in Europe.  I feel like I take advantage of living in the city by not exploring. Between school and being lazy, it's hard to get the motivation to go out in search of all the places New York has to offer. I'm sure I've walked by so many beautiful spots because I have my headphones on and my eyes down. Maybe now that it's spring I'll take the time to walk slower and look around.

Medieval Times

Pictures from a trip to the Cloisters I took a couple days ago. It's one of my favorite places in the city. It's a great place to spend a couple hours exploring the gardens and taking a break. I'm in a Medieval architecture class now so I was able to appreciate parts of the Cloisters I didn't before. Everything was in bloom and it was so nice spending time strolling through the grounds!
