Velvet Overalls

Velvet overalls//free people, sheer top//h&m

These are the overalls Katherine picked up for my birthday from the consignment shop where she works - 12 bucks! Velvety-soft and boudoir purple, they're like a dream. The color and fabric transports me to a room with lush linens, soft curtains, and comfy pillows. They're kind of hard to see in the pictures, which Katherine snapped of me in her backyard just before the sun went down in Philly. I have serious spring fever right now. I'm looking forward to the warm weekend. You better believe I'll be showing off these pale legs and spending the whole weekend outside!

P.s. This is my 150th post! I never thought I'd be blogging this long after study abroad, but I'm still loving it more than ever. Huzzah!

SPBK 14

Even though it's Spring Break (my last one mind you), I was not able to jet off to some exotic locale. I'm kicking myself for taking an actual work load! (I didn't get the memo that second semester seniors have enough on their plates and should probably just take a few classes...and not have an internship). The upside was that for my upcoming paper I got assigned Alfred Barnes, which gave me an excuse to spend a couple days in Philly. I got to see Katherine and my brother, in addition to eating my weight in delicious food! I picked up some moccasins for only four bucks. I've always wanted a pair, but for some reason it just never happened. I get why people wear them all the time, they're basically just socially acceptable slippers.

For my birthday Katherine got me a pair of Free People velvet overalls, paid for my ticket to the Barnes Foundation, and picked up a used copy Liar's Club by Mary Karr. What can I say, the girl gets me. On Wednesday morning we stopped by Federal Donuts, hands down my favorite place to go in Philly. I mean, where else can you get fresh gourmet donuts and some chicken? Our next stop was the Barnes Foundation, which was unlike anything I have ever really seen. My eyes couldn't stay focused on one spot for long. After about three hours I had everything I needed for my paper and we were simply over-saturated with art. The perfect cure - tacos with a side of mac and cheese...yes please!

On Thursday morning before my bus back we met up with my brother at Sabrina's Cafe located in a converted old house in West Philly. I ate a mountain of stuffed french toast with bananas, the perfect meal before heading back to Brooklyn.

Anyway, I'll be spending the weekend libing la vida loca and cursing everyone who will be in class on Monday morning with a tan. More pictures of my new overalls to come!

Feelin 22

I turned 22 on Friday and I have been spending the weekend celebrating with friends and family. On Friday I had a 90s themed roller skating party with some friends and my boyfriend. It took a while to get the hang of skates, grabbing the hand of anyone near. It was easy to spot the people in my party because we all had flannels tied around our waists, so I just had to look for flannel bums! We celebrated afterwards with some home-made vegan carrot cake. I took a couple pictures, but they are all on my disposable camera so I have to wait until I finish the roll.

On Saturday I spent the day with my mom and she bought me these sweeeet pants! They haven't really left my body since I first put them on. I wore them out on Saturday night for drinks with friends. I dressed them up with this top and some boots. Sunday morning I decided I couldn't get enough of them, so I dressed them down for an afternoon spent wandering around Brooklyn with Chloe. We went to the farmers market, bought some tea for my new elephant tea set, warmed up with big bowls of ramen and went to the movies. We saw the Grand Budapest Hotel, our purses filled with contraband snacks and water bottles of wine. It was such a visually stunning movie! Besides being beautiful, it was Wes Anderson's sense of humor at it's finest. I never realized how nice a Sunday night movie can be, but it's something I think I should incorporate into my life more.

Spring Fling

images are mine and from my tumblr

I know I'm not the only one thinking this winter was too long! I'm already starting to get little glimpses of spring, which makes me want it to get here even faster! It was nice to see the sun stay out a little later yesterday. I can't wait for the nights to get longer and longer. I'm feeling inspired by baby pinks and blues and anything found in nature - mostly florals, but that's just every spring. Mostly I miss windows down, cruisin! You might recall several of these pictures from when I went to visit Ella for Spring Fling at Bard last year. Long days spent sunning ourselves in the grass, exposing our bare limbs, driving through the country roads with the windows down and the music turned all the way up. Most importantly spring means graduation and all the fun activities that surround it. Can't wait to officially strip my winter layers of sweaters, cowls, and coats - some much need catharsis!
